This encaustic painting was inspired by the beautiful late-summer heather, rugged stone walls and ever-changing mountain light. Layers of molten beeswax and pigment allowed me to capture the softness of the heather against the darker, weathered slopes with storm clouds gathering overhead.

Crib Goch – Tân ar y Grib is my interpretation of one of Eryri’s most recognisable and dramatic ridges — a landscape of rock, light, cloud and wild weather.

I also spent a little time giving the paintings a final polish so that the layers of beeswax could really shine and the beautiful textures could come to life. ✨

This painting is my interpretation of Ryan’s striking photograph — a collaboration, in a sense, between the inspiration of the original image and the unique qualities of encaustic wax.

I wanted to capture the dappled light filtering in through the ancient woodland, the vibrant moss and lichen-covered rocks, the twisted roots and the tumbling water as it winds its way through the glen.
