The first encaustic painting captures a peaceful rural scene full of texture and atmosphere. In the foreground, a pair of sheep stand among lush green foliage, their wool beautifully rendered with layered wax that gives them a tactile, three-dimensional presence. A winding path leads the eye toward a traditional stone cottage with a bright red door, nestled among rolling hills. The sky above is dramatic and moody. The second encaustic painting depicts a striking seascape bathed in soft golden light. Waves surge and break in rich, layered textures, capturing the energy and unpredictability of the sea. On a rocky outcrop stands the Tower of Refuge, weathered but steadfast against the elements. Built originally to shelter shipwreck victims and as a warning for ships. The sky glows with warm yellows merging into greys, giving the sense of dawn or dusk settling over the water. The wax layers create a vivid sense of motion and atmosphere, making the scene feel both powerful and serene.

From countryside calm to coastal light

Today saw the departure of these two commissioned encaustic paintings. The first is a gentle rural scene with a cottage and grazing Manx Loaghtan sheep, full of layered texture and soft, earthy colours. The second captures the energy of the coast, with waves rolling in beneath a glowing sky and an old stone castle standing strong against the sea.
